All students have aspirations and dreams about "what they want to be when they grow up." But in the typical American high school, only some students have access to the classes, workplace experiences, and relationships to turn their hopes and dreams into reality.

Pathways provide a roadmap of classes and experiences that begin in high school and lead to a college degree or credential and a good job. They allow high school students to start building toward the career they are passionate about and the life they envision for themselves.

Pursuing a pathway means that students’ educational experiences offer them opportunities to gain knowledge, explore interests, build skills, get on-the-job experience, and create networks—all in pursuit of the ultimate goal of landing in a career that will enable them to live prosperous and fulfilling lives.
